How 112 works

When we receive a call from a citizen, we set in motion a whole process to assist them as effectively and quickly as possible. We locate the incident on a map using a computer application, we classify the call in accordance with the type of incident, and we notify the most appropriate service: ambulance for medical emergencies, the Mossos d'Esquadra (the autonomous police of Catalonia) for safety, and firefighters for extinguishing fires and other rescue incidents.

At 112 we want our service to be accessible to all those who require it. As such, our operators answer calls in Spanish, Catalan, English, French and German. Furthermore, we have a special service for the deaf: an application for mobile devices and an SMS and fax service. These alternative means were also designed for foreign tourists who require an emergency service during their stay in Catalonia.


Seqtaxi, a special system for taxis

We have an innovative technological platform that connects taxis with 112. This system allows the location of taxis to be monitored and informs us if there is an emergency situation, thus improving the safety of the taxi driver and their customers. Seqtaxi is managed by Localret and the Metropolitan Taxi Institute.
